Tony Trains - 2024's Grand Challenge

Stretch Targets

I want 2024 to be different, not just in a work sense but also personally. Already at capacity with learning new things with the business, a big sporting challenge could help me get away from the laptop while helping showcase all the amazing products we have available at Ready Sweat Go. Doing this kind of thing should provide some excellent content for the social media channels; so that combo seems like a winner.

The challenge is the Coast To Coast Rat Race. It's a 100-mile route from Nairn on the North Coast, to Fort William on the West. It combines running (on and off-road), cycling (on and off-road), rowing and a fair few hills! It's a proper test of endurance, willpower, and mental strength. And it needs to be completed within the day.

Training Begins

Due to the style of this challenge, it represents a bit of a lifestyle change as there is a fair mix of hills, cycling on and off road plus road and trail running. I'll document my progress to provide an insight into the journey, the training and anything relevant and exciting! The highs should be high, and the lows, I am sure, will be lower than a snake's proverbial. What's a given, though, is that this year will be quite the adventure as a result. The upside (for me) is that I am not doing it alone; I'll be joining two mates, Clint and Stef, who are clearly as mad as me.

Blood(y Mary's), Sweat and Scenery?

While training, the aim is to get out and about in as many new and exciting places as possible and, while there, film as many A-grade backdrops as I can. The terrain on race day looks highly varied, over the 100 miles, the total elevation gain is around 10,000 feet, so it will be necessary to replicate the hills as often as possible to get used to them.

More Than a Race

It's not really a race; I'd be ecstatic to get over the line, even better in the allotted time. It goes without saying that we're deciding on a charity to raise money for. More on this to follow! I'm off for a run! Thanks.
